Types of Garage Floor Epoxies

There are several different types of epoxy that you can choose from. Our team can talk with you about your options and discuss which process would be best for your space. For residential and commercial garage floor, your options are fairly straight forward and cost effective.

Self-Leveling – great for garages, kitchens, warehouses, offices, etc
Self-Dispersing – good mechanical strength for forklifts, etc.
Mortar Epoxy – strongest of all epoxy floors – great for heavy industry use
Graveled Epoxy – most decorative type – great to use as brand marks, logos or decorative details
Terrazzo Epoxy – generally used in large hallways, entrances for schools and commercial buildings
Antistatic Epoxy – used in static free environments for specific industries
Epoxy Coatings with Vapor Barriers – applied over concrete floors and reduces vapor transmission to almost zero – it is usually applied before adding a final flooring product such as vinyl, tile, carpet or hardwoods

Paint Vs. Epoxy – Not Even a Contest! Like Apples & Oranges – Just Not the Same!

You do have options for garage floor coatings that aren’t epoxy. Garage floor paint is an option for your garage floor…it’s not a great option, especially on concrete, but it’s an option. We get a lot of questions about the difference between paint and epoxy so we’re going to try to separate the two, because there is a HUGE difference.

Garage Floor Paint

Garage Floor Paint is just that, it’s paint. Yeah, it will “update” the look of the floor, but it’s not going to stick to oil spills or other chemicals that have been spilled. Paint also will not last anywhere as long as an epoxy would. Paint on a concrete floor will be slippery when wet, will chip with very little use and will have to be sandblasted off at some point to achieve something better. So, yeah, paint will update, but it’s not going to be a durable, long-lasting fix for your garage.

Epoxy Coating

Epoxy floor coatings are a two-part system that create an actual durable layer that strengthens and seals your concrete. You drop a hammer on garage floor epoxy, nothing’s going to happen. You drop a hammer on painted concrete, it’s going to chip the paint, and possibly crack your concrete. Garage floor epoxy coatings will protect your concrete as it adds an entire protective sheet over your concrete that is more durable. Colored epoxies and color flakes allow you to truly customize the look of your garage floor coatings too. Your garage flooring can be a total showstopper with epoxy coatings. Epoxy flooring is the most durable way to take care of your concrete.
